  1.                Time Series Analysis Demo

  3. The data in this demonstration shows the power,
  4. measured in megawatts, produced at a large power
  5. generation station. The data was collected from many
  6. circuits, every half-hour for a period exceeding one
  7. year.

  9. Initially, the data is sub-sampled to fit into the
  10. window and displayed as a 2-D color image where days
  11. are on the X axis and time of day is the Y axis. The
  12. color shades represent the data values in megawatts
  13. with a legend at the bottom of the x window indicating
  14. the relationship between the color shades and the data
  15. values.

  17. Drag the cursor over the 2-D color image to get
  18. specific data readings which are displayed in the lower
  19. left hand corner of the window.  The Time and Date
  20. Profiles are updated as the cursor moves through the
  21. image.

  23. You can also view the data as a 3-D surface. You can
  24. view the data for the entire year, or for any month
  25. within the year.

  30. File Menu:

  32.     Select "Quit" to exit the demo.

  34. Options Menu:

  36.     Note: this menu is only available when the surface
  37.     display is in use. The menu will be greyed out when
  38.     the image display is in use.

  40.     Select "Fixed Z Axis" to fix the Z axis such that it
  41.     covers the range of the entire data set.

  43.     Select "Variable Z Axis" to scale the Z axis such that
  44.     it covers only the current month.

  48.     Select "Image" to display the 2-D version of the data,
  49.     as described above.

  52.     the data.

  63.     Click this button to toggle between displaying
  64.     the 2-D (image) and 3-D (surface) versions of 
  65.     the data.

  68.     Adjust the month selection slider bar to select a
  69.     specific month to view. Slide the slider all the
  70.     way to the left to view the entire year's data set.

  73.     Adjust this slider to change the z axis rotation of
  74.     the surface plot. This slider does not appear when
  75.     the 2-D image display is in use.

  79.     the surface plot. This slider does not appear when
